A Winter Wedding Wonderland: Capturing Modern Romance in Thurmont, MD

Bailey & Tom’s winter wedding in Thurmont MD

The location

Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Maryland lies the quaint town of Thurmont, a hidden gem that transforms into a winter wonderland during the colder months. Against this picturesque backdrop, a modern love story unfolded, and as a Frederick wedding photographer, I had the privilege of capturing every magical moment of this romantic winter wedding.

The Story

This winter wedding in Thurmont, MD was a beautiful roller coaster of emotions. I have known Bailey all my life! I met her sister as we were kids, and through her sister, I was introduced to Bailey, We grew up together in the same town of Thurmont MD. I was introduced to Tom who reached out to me about their Fine Art Wedding Photography. We chatted over the phone about the wedding details and Tom stated that they would not want anyone else to capture their beautiful Fine Art Wedding since I am very close to their family.

This past Saturday I started my 2020 wedding season with a bang!

I have known Bailey and her family since I was a tiny human in preschool and I have grown to love them like they were my own family. Naturally, I was so excited when I saw that Bailey had gotten engaged. Her and her now Husband Tom are the most perfect match. They both have bubbly personalities and are two of the most caring and compassionate humans I have ever met. They have two beautiful baby boys who melt your heart as soon as you meet them. I had to yes to them without hesitation.

THE CEREMONY

Bailey’s family has attended St.Johns church in Creagerstown MD for generations and this church is very dear to their family. Every single woman in their family has been married at St. Johns’s church. The St. John’s Church at Creagerstown Historic District is a national historic district located at Creagerstown, Frederick County, Maryland.

I love Winter Weddings which are quite rare here in Maryland. Tom & the guys got ready at the couple’s home in Thurmont which was also Bailey’s childhood home. They celebrated with beer and laughs and even had some fun on the kids swing-set. Bailey and the girls were not far up the road getting ready at her Mother’s home. Bailey and her family a few years ago lost her beloved sister Marley. To honor her all the girls had matching butterfly tattoos. Spirits were high though for this happy occasion and Bailey looked stunning and just like a Disney princess in her dress. She shared a touching first look with her bridesmaids who were in different shades of blush and purple. The girls sported fur throws to complete their look and complement the neutral color palette. It was the perfect vision of a timeless & romantic wedding day! The two married at Bailey’s family church (also used to be my church!) Where all the women in her family have been married as well. It was a beautiful day. Crisp air but not too cold and no rain or snow. We spent the entire week fighting rain so it was so exciting that it stopped for the big day. The oldest son escorted Tom to the altar as the youngest accompanied Bailey down the aisle. Family is so important to these two and you can really tell. The day was mostly cloud covered until the ceremony where warm sunlight filled the church. I think it’s safe to say, Marley, Bailey’s sister was there watching and cheering her on. Her presence was definitely filling the room. The reception was held at Duchess Daughter in Frederick where everyone laughed and partied the night away.

Bailey said one of her favorite moments was having her son Micah walk with her down the aisle and Tom’s was seeing her walk down the aisle. The couple is most looking forward to watching their boys grow up and seeing what their family will accomplish! Congratulations to the newlyweds! I can’t wait to see what your future holds!! Special shout out to all of the vendors who helped make this day amazing!
